This dataset contains the complete task lists of the Step Ladder System (SLS), a structured competency-based educational framework implemented in the surgical clerkship curriculum of the Division of Gastrointestinal and Pediatric Surgery at Tottori University Faculty of Medicine. The SLS organizes clinical learning objectives into three progressive levels (Step 1–3), enabling medical students to visualize required competencies, record task achievements, and engage in self-directed learning throughout their clinical rotations.

This dataset includes:

The original Japanese version of the SLS task list (ver. 1.7)

The full English translation of the SLS task list (ver. 1.7)

These materials were utilized in studies evaluating task achievement, perceived task difficulty, and changes in self-efficacy among medical students. The dataset is provided to enhance transparency and reproducibility in medical education research and to support the adaptation and implementation of the SLS framework in other clinical training environments.
