Data relating to the “Evaluation of the Task Characteristics of a Non-Compensatory Holistic Experiment” survey. This study presents a decision-making experiment with eight tasks consisting of evaluating a set of alternatives on a set of attributes. Two decision-making processes are compared, the selection of the best alternative versus the elimination of the worst alternative, carried out by 364 participants. Other characteristics of these tasks such as the type of data visualization and the type of attribute weights are also analyzed. These analyses are made based on the participants’ performance, here represented by the probabilities of success obtained in each task and by the time spent answering the problems. Thus, the aim of this study is to evaluate how the different characteristics of tasks with holistic visualizations lead to better results of probabilities of success when applying non-compensatory decision strategies, a process tracing approach. The knowledge gained from these assessments enables decision analysts to provide adequate support to DMs and, consequently, to improve non-compensatory systems that apply holistic evaluations. The results obtained show that it is not the consideration of a specific characteristic of the tasks, nor even the preference of DMs for such aspects that lead to better performance and greater chances of success.
