These de-identified data describe a cohort of Flinders University first year economics students and their experiences with and attitudes towards mathematics in the context of their studies.

Variables include basic demographic data, perceived comfortableness with maths, and both formal and informal experience with maths skills training.

Data are saved in SPSS format, and are openable in IBM SPSS Statistics 25.

These data were collected under approval of the Flinders University Social and Behavioural Research Ethics Committee, project number 6015. Analysed data are presented in a concurrent manuscript.
