This is a dataset of CT scans (DICOM format) of the cranium of Diprotodon optatum (NMV P31299) from the collection of Museum Victoria (https://museumvictoria.com.au/melbournemuseum/discoverycentre/600-million-years/timeline/quaternary/diprotodon/). This fossil was recovered from Pleistocene sediments at Bacchus Marsh in Victoria, Australia. Diprotodon is the largest marsupial known and could have weighed over three tons

These scans accompany articles published in PeerJ (https://peerj.com/articles/514/), Journal of Anatomy (http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/joa.12456/abstract), and Memoirs of Museum Victoria ( https://museumvictoria.com.au/about/books-and-journals/journals/memoirs-of-museum-victoria/2010-2019/2016-vol-74-special-issue-in-honour-of-dr-thomas-h-rich/sharp/) that describe the cranium, jaw muscles and endocranial sinuses

This dataset should be cited if used in any publications.
