Dataset for the manuscript titled "Cluster Analysis of Block Shapes Aids in Predicting Rockfall Hazards: A Novel Quantitative Characterization Method for Rock Mass Structure."
This dataset provides tabular files that support the references used in Fig. 1 of the associated manuscript. It also includes modeling data for the rock mass structure of an open-pit mine in the United States, as well as simulation data of rockfall trajectories.
Dataset_S1. Data of the specific locations of rockfall hazards and the types of affected man-made and natural infrastructure and resources over the past 15 years. For data derived from research papers, the dataset includes the paper title, authors, publication year, the type of region affected, and the precise location of the event, along with the corresponding country and continent. For data obtained from news reports, the dataset provides the URL of the source, as well as the specific location, country, and continent where the rockfall event occurred.
Dataset_structural_plane_system. Data of the discrete fracture network (DFN) from an open-pit mine in the United States. The compressed package includes three .mat files: (1) centerpoint.mat: Provides the coordinates of the center points of each structural plane in the DFN. (2) orientation.mat: Contains the orientation data of each structural plane, where the variable ChanZhuang stores the dip angle in the first column and the dip direction in the second column. (3) radius.mat: Provides the radius of each structural plane in the DFN.
Dataset_rock_block_system. Data of the rock block system from an open-pit mine in the United States. The compressed package includes three .mat files: (1) block_information_vertex.mat: Provides the coordinate data of all vertices that constitute the rock blocks. The i-th row corresponds to the coordinates of vertex i. (2) block_information_body.mat: Stores a cell array containing data for 618 individual blocks. Each row of the cell array corresponds to one block and contains an n × m matrix, where each row of the matrix represents one face of the block. Non-zero entries in the row indicate the vertex indices that form the face, ordered according to the face loop; zero entries are used solely for matrix padding and carry no significance. (3)block_information_volume.mat: Contains the volume data for each individual block.
Dataset_trajectory. Trajectory data from the rockfall motion analysis of a representative rock block from Group 2 on the slope of the open-pit mine. The compressed package includes thirty .mat files. Each file records the position coordinates of the block’s center point at 200 time steps, capturing the motion from initial release to final rest under different initial orientations.
