The work addressed the transition to the ToM second-order reasoning. A novel second-order Theory of Mind task that manipulated desires (desire to obtain, “positive desire,” vs. desire to avoid, “negative desire”) and beliefs (true vs. false) was proposed to 59 children between the ages of 5 and 8 years. Traditional ToM tasks and both verbal and executive functions tasks were also administered.
