Laboratory burns were conducted to characterize smoke emissions from building materials found at the wildland urban interface. Experiments probed emissions from smoldering and flaming combustion for nine man-made fuels. The data here are the observations from the laboratory experiments and the experimental parameters. Version updated on 10/30/2024.

Burn ID: Experiment identification number

Fuel: Material Burned

Temperature: Temperature of Experiment

Mass Consumed: Amount of Material Consumed during Burn

Minimum O2 Reading: Lowest O2 observed during experiment (%)

Modified Combustion Efficiency (MCE): a metric used to characterize combustion conditions

Scattering_405nm_Mm-1: Observed aerosol scattering at 405nm in Mm-1 from PASS-3

Absorption_405nm_Mm-1: Observed aerosol absorption at 405nm in Mm-1 from PASS-3

Scattering_532nm_Mm-1: Observed aerosol scattering at 532 in Mm-1 from PASS-3

Absorption_532nm_Mm-1: Observed aerosol absorption at 532 in Mm-1 from PASS-3

SSA_405nm: Single Scattering Albedo calculated for 405 nm

SSA_532nm: Single Scattering Albedo calculated for 532 nm

AAE_405_532: Absorption angstrom exponents is the wavelength dependency for light absorption calculated between 405 nm and 532 nm. The difference between absorption was only calculated when the difference was greater than 30% of the absorption signal.
