Conoscere e riconoscere l’antiziganismo. Riflessioni sulla nuova Strategia Nazionale 2021-2030
This paper explores the evolution of Italian policies for the inclusion of Roma and Sinti communities, with a focus on the new National Strategy 2021–2030. Building on the lessons of the 2012–2020 Strategy, the authors highlight key innovations: the recognition of antigypsyism as a specific form of racism, and the urgent need to close the data gap regarding the Roma population in Italy. The article addresses challenges related to institutional definitions, data collection, and the role of public institutions and civil society in policy design. It underlines how antigypsyism affects multiple areas—education, housing, employment, and media—both offline and online. Combating antigypsyism is presented as a foundational and cross-cutting principle for any inclusive and sustainable public intervention.
