The BlueBio Project’s database
The BlueBio database is a comprehensive and robust compilation of international and national research projects active in the years 2003-2022 in Fisheries, Aquaculture, Seafood Processing and Marine Biotechnology. Based on the COFASP projects’ database, it was implemented within the ERA-NET Cofund BlueBio project through a 3-years data collection including 3 surveys (.xlsx file) and a wide data retrieval. After being integrated, data were harmonised, shared as open and disseminated through a WebGIS (https://bluebioeconomy.eu/the-bluebio-projects-online-database/). The WebGIS was key for data update and validation as users were enabled to add new projects and edit existing ones.
The database consists of 3,761 “georeferenced” projects, described by 22 parameters that are clustered into textual and spatial, some directly collected while others deduced. The database is a living archive to inform actors of the Blue Bioeconomy sector in a period of rapid transformations and research needs. The selection of projects to be included in the database was based on a combination of keywords previously identified by database administrators within the title, abstract, and, when available, keywords.
The complete BlueBio database information backup (.sql file) should be restored in Postgre SQL. Collected research projects are also presented in a more user friendly .csv file, along with the R code used for its extraction.
As compared to the previous version, the database has been further enhanced by adding projects related to the years 2020-2022, as well as finalizing the harmonization of the data to achieve a more detailed and accurate allocation of projects.
The related report MS37 refers on the results of a series of exploratory analyses aimed to describe the information contained in the BlueBio research projects’ database.
