This R script and analyses presented here support research on a comparative analysis to evaluate the extent to which global land-use models such as HYDE v3.2.1 accurately reflect historical land-use in sub-Saharan Africa in comparison to archaeological and historical reconstructions.

Data used in this study were compiled from previously published sources that are publicly available online: HYDEv3.2.1 global land-use model ; Widgren 2017, Map of agricultural systems in Africa by 1800 ; ETOPO1 1 Arc-Minute Global Relief model ; GAEZv4 Soil Suitability Index.
