This is the Stata dataset used for the PIRP-ITS study, in which we described how an outpatient management program of patients with chronic kidney disease (the PIRP project) was effective in reducing the patients’ need for hospitalizations.

Data from 17,036 patients enrolled in the project between 1st April 2004 and 31st December 2015 were analysed by means of Interrupted Time Series (ITS) in which the outcome was the aggregated number of hospital admissions in every four month period from the 4 years before patients joined PIRP to the following 4 years. Enrolment in the PIRP project was the event that split the time series, and we hypothesised that the admissions' trend was reduced in the 4 years following this event.

In the dataset the statistical unit is the hospital admission, therefore it includes 70,560 records. Patients have one single record with no data on admissions if they have never been hospitalized, one single record with data on admissions if they were hospitalized once, and more than one record if they experienced multiple hospitalizations. Clinical and demographic data refer to patients' first visit in the PIRP project and are repeated in patients with multiple hospitalizations.

The results of the study are currently published in preprint on MedRxiv, and we are undergoing submission on a peer-reviewed journal.
