This dataset is the 2022–2023 National Survey of Children’s Health (NSCH), a publicly available, de-identified dataset representative of US youth ages 0–17. NSCH provides data on multiple, intersecting aspects of youth’s health and well-being such as their physical and mental health, access to and quality of health care, and their family, neighborhood, school, and social context. The peer-reviewed manuscript published in Children and Youth Services Review, titled "Adolescent Volunteering in the United States: Associations with Friendship and Behavior Outcomes" (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.childyouth.2025.108612), utilized these data. The codebook (SPSS, SAS, STATA) for these data can be found here: https://www.childhealthdata.org/learn-about-the-nsch/nsch-codebooks
