Drawing upon long-term participatory observation and informal interviews conducted during community social work internships, this study examines the impact of pervasive ableist microaggressions on community participation among disabled people. Preliminary findings suggest that these microaggressions, emanating from community staff, members, and family, as well as internalized by disabled individuals themselves, significantly impede their engagement and enthusiasm, highlighting the need for further empirical investigation into this rarely addressed aspect of disability culture.
