Transforming Renewable Energy Research Ecosystems in Emerging Economies: A New Analytical Perspective and Insights from Egypt
Renewable energy is pivotal in addressing global challenges, including climate change, energy security, and sustainable development (Olabi & Abdelkareem, 2022). For emerging economies, transitioning to renewable energy offers a unique opportunity to drive economic growth, create jobs, and reduce reliance on fossil fuels, fostering environmental and economic resilience (Adelekan et al., 2024). Central to realising this potential is the transformation of the research ecosystem -an essential driver of innovation, knowledge creation, and effective collaboration among academia, industry, and government (Abbas, 2019). A healthy research ecosystem fosters technological advancements, strengthens research capacity, and ensures alignment of research outputs with the socio-economic priorities of emerging economies (UNESCO, 2016; El Hajj et al., 2020).
