This chapter discusses notions of globalisation and alliances in higher education. It examines changes in Australia’s higher education system which have been brought about by shifts in funding sources, delivery modes for teaching and learning and student catchment markets. The chapter focuses on the implications of these shifts in funding for the future governance of a local–global university in Australia that relied substantially for its economic survival on funds generated from alliances in the public–private higher education sector.
