One of the fundamental principles, identified in the New Education Policy 2020, that will guide the education system in the country, is the recognition of teachers and faculty as the heart of the learning process – their recruitment, continuous professional development, positive working environments and service conditions as a critical component in the development of education sector in general and Higher Education Institutions (HEI) in particular. As the new education policy will impact both school and college education, this article analyses the changing role of teachers and the need for Faculty Development in the education sector.
