The schematic representation of suppression of protein aggregation by a protein chaperone.

<p>The dependences of the relative initial rate of aggregation (<i>v</i>/<i>v</i>0)1/<i>n</i> on the ratio of the concentrations of the chaperone and target protein. The following designations are used: <i>v</i>0 and <i>v</i> are the initial rate of aggregation of target protein in the absence and presence of chaperone, respectively; <i>n</i> is a power exponent in Eq. (9); <i>x</i> is the [chaperone]/[target protein] ratio; <i>S</i> is the stoichiometry of the chaperone–target protein complex. (<b>A</b>) The formation of the chaperone– target protein complex with constant stoichiometry <i>S</i>0. (<b>B</b>) Case when the stoichiometry of the chaperone–target protein complex is changed with variation of the [chaperone]/[target protein] ratio.</p>
