Effect of purpurin on Candida albicans biofilms.

Bandara, Wing-Ping FongA) Biofilm formation of C. albicans SC5314 was examined in YNB medium containing the indicated concentrations of purpurin for 24 h at 37°C. B) Purpurin was added to pre-formed (mature) C. albicans biofilms and incubated in YNB medium for an additional 24 h at 37°C. The metabolic activity of the biofilms was assessed quantitatively using XTT reduction assay. The activity of samples without purpurin treatment (i.e. DMSO only) (0 µg/ml) was taken as 100%. Results shown were the average of three independent experiments ± SD. *p<0.01 when compared with the untreated controls.
