Cells expressing unfused GFP were used as a control. Poly(A) RNA was detected by fluorescence in situ hybridisation using a Cy3-labeled oligo(dT)30 probe. Cells were incubated for 2 h in PBS, PBS + glucose (PBSG) or in complete medium prior to fixation and analysis. Merge refers to the overlay of GFP and Cy3 signals in combination with signals from the DNA stain DAPI.
