CoveyCarnegie Mellon's proposal to the Pew Charitable Trusts in April of 1985 proposed a "renewal of undergraduate education" through the implementation of a university-wide core curriculum. The basic objectives were to develop (a) curricula that nurtured "fundamental - but critical - intellectual skills,” especially in writing and computing, as well as (b) interdisciplinary curricula that focused on "the relationships among science, technology, and the liberal arts.”
