Australian governments believe planning laws can link the urban water cycle and urban planning, to improve the liveability of our cities and protect water resources, such as rainwater, stormwater, groundwater and urban waterways. This thesis examined that assumption via empirical research. Planning laws were found to focus on some parts of the urban water cycle, but not others. The research suggests ways to reform planning laws, so they address the entire urban water cycle, while fostering greener, more liveable urban spaces
