The annual plant Arabidopsis thaliana has been a model to dissect the genetic control of germination and flowering timing. By studying germination and flowering timing of natural populations across the geographic distribution of A. thaliana, multiple life cycle strategies emerge to best couple local temperature and precipitation patterns.
