Student-Run Journals and Experiential Learning: Introducing Emerging Library & Information Perspectives

The MLIS program at Western University published the first issue of its new student-run journal, Emerging Library & Information Perspectives (ELIP), in May 2018. Grounded in the belief that MLIS programs should facilitate opportunities for students to actively engage in scholarly communication processes, ELIP has been structured as an experiential learning initiative. The journal itself "aims to further research and scholarship in the field of library and information science by way of fostering a publishing community among emerging library and information professionals" (ELIP 2018). In addition to providing a publishing venue for student authors, ELIP is closely aligned with a newly launched Scholarly Communication and Open Access Publishing course, with the members of the class serving as the journal's Editorial Team.
