Figure S2. Spectrogram of a generic sonar signal, or ping, in the frequency band used by high-power MFAS sources. This signal has been used to simulate MFAS in recent playback experiments. The actual signal used in a given operation varies with conditions and operational objectives at the time. Mid-power sources use similar signals but at a slightly higher frequency and lower source level. Pings are typically broadcast every 20-30 sec in transmission bouts that can last from a few minutes to many hours.
