The relaxation dynamics is presented by plotting the atomic displacement in the fiber cross section as a function of time in the picosecond time scale well after the light pulse has gone. The electromagnetic energy of the pulse is 1 micro J, the wavelength is 1550 nm, and the FWHM is 27 fs. The diameter of the circular fiber core is 1550 nm. The dashed line shows the boundaries of the fiber. The elastic waves are gradually damped and thermalized by absorption and scattering, which is not presented in the simulation. Due to the periodic boundary conditions used in the simulation of the elastic relaxation, the interface effects at the ends of the fiber are not present.
