Risk prediction and Management of Paracetamol Overdose

thesis
posted on 2018-11-12, 23:21 authored by ANSELM YAO-MING WONG
Paracetamol is the one of the most common drugs taken in overdose and hundreds of thousands of people are treated worldwide per annum. This affects all ages, the majority of these involve young females who have the whole of their lives ahead of them. My PhD has helped to evaluate risk prediction tools, decrease the severe adverse effects that can be associated with the antidote (acetylcysteine) and investigate shorter treatment regimens for paracetamol overdose. This could lead to shorter stays in hospital freeing up beds and resources in an already overcrowded health system.
