A Regional Shelter Analysis provides emergency planners and responders with key information to support fallout shelter planning. Regional Shelter Analysis results can be used to (a) characterize the quality of fallout shelters in an area to inform shelter improvement and evacuation planning, (b) support a choice of response strategies, and (c) estimate the radiation exposure to sheltered populations when combined with outdoor radiation estimates.

This quick-start guide provides an overview of the steps required to (a) set up and (b) interpret the results of a regional shelter analysis for individual neighborhoods.

The following expertise is required to complete this process:
(a) Local building databases (e.g., GIS property specialist),
(b) Local building codes and/or construction (e.g. structural engineer), and
(c) Emergency response planning.

THIS GUIDE WAS PUBLISHED IN 2011. WHILE THE GENERAL METHOD REMAINS RELEVANT, THE PFSCREEN MODEL AND RELATED DATA HAS BEEN UPDATED.
