Endospore forming Bacillus megaterium is a Gram-positive bacterium that previously was the model organism of choice prior to the development and ascendency of Bacillus subtilis. Larger than the typical bacterium, B. megaterium cells occur in pairs or chains, where each cell is attached to another through polysaccharides on the cell wall. This work presents the proteome repertoire of this fascinating bacterium. Using an in-house MATLAB proteome analysis software, this work parses the UniProt proteome file of B. megaterium ATCC 12872. The resulting database comprises protein name, amino acid sequence, number of residues, molecular weight, and nucleotide sequence, and should find use in a wide variety of biology and biotechnology applications that pertain to understanding basic biology of the species, or for informing selection of genes for molecular cloning experiments.
