The trajectories used to make the κ = 50 panel of Fig 5 were projected onto the the first two principal components (PCs) of the attractor array (labeled stars). Cells (circles) are colored according to the closest attractor as computed by Eq 13. When the external field is activated, most cells become trapped in the μ = 7 state, although occasionally cells break from the group and complete another circuit before becoming trapped again. After the external field is removed, the cells eventually return to a desynchronized state. See S4 Video for an animation of these trajectories.
