This Master's thesis is completed in June 2011 at Universitas Udayana, Bali-Indonesia. The thesis presents a cognitive linguistic investigation on the polysemy of the English body-part lexeme, i.e. HEAD. The lexeme is analysed in terms of (i) the cognitive motivations (e.g. metaphors and metonymies) grounding the various type of the HEAD's extended senses, (ii) the correlation with the constructions within which HEAD exhibits its semantic extensions, and (iii) the relatedness among the cluster of HEAD s distinct senses in the context of its semantic network. The data comes from the web archive of eight British newspapers searched through the Webcorp.
