Peer-review is overrated
Scientific process from idea to knowledge, extremely simplified. The process can be viewed as a sequence of semi-permeable membrans (red dashed lines) which act as filter mechanisms and select a subset of the outcomes of the previous step for further processing. The traditional anonymous peer-review as it is established in the publication of journal papers is only one of these many membrans. It is therefore misleading to think of this type of peer-review as a necessary condition for the success of the process.
