This thesis explores the effects of a natural product, ellagitannin geraniin, on rats with metabolic syndrome, which is a chronic disease characterized by the clustering of obesity, increased blood pressure and overly high fats and glucose in the blood. It identifies remarkable protective effects of geraniin against numerous features of metabolic syndrome and shows its modulatory effect on the powerhouse of the cell - mitochondria. The clinical use of geraniin may be beneficial for patients with metabolic syndrome.
