This blog post recognizes the original publication date for Anne Moody's Coming of Age in Mississippi. Moody was a civil rights pioneer. Her book presents her life as a poor black girl growing up in southwest Mississippi during the Jim Crow era. She became a civil rights activist while attending Tougaloo College in the early 1960s.
