Birtadeurali, Kabhrepalanchok District, Bagmati Zone, central Nepal

Live Brief during semester break 2017/18


Currently being built as per students drawings.


Stage 1: Research (4 days)

Students had to research and work on the following:

1. Working on a live brief with an international client, working collaboratively and virtually with peers from other cities. Why is this done? What are the benefits?
What are the challenges?


2. Educational needs in Nepal environment
Students were required to design the interior and exterior of an elementary school Students to research other case studies


3. Culture


4. Needs
What are the spatial requirements?
Can the spaces be used for other things? Modular?


5. Site limitations and conditions (access to power, materials, UNESCO, cost recommendations etc)

Stage 2: Design Development (6 days)

Required tech drawings package for:


Spatial planning- class rooms

Amenities

Playground


1. Floor plans/ plan view (including in situ)
2. Elevations
3. Sections
4. Joinery details
5. Renders (high quality)
6. 1 x A1 poster

7. Presentation to client


Students permitted to communicate with client directly- this formed part of their reflection and journal entries.


Sonia Weston and Caitlin McGregor's concepts were combined and selected to be built by the client.
