NEON Teaching Data: Hyperspectral tutorial series example dataset

Download (47.8 MB)
This is an HDF5 file that is a subset of a single 1km^2 National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON) Airborne Observation Platform (AOP) hyperspectral imaging spectrometer data from the San Joaquin Experimental Range in California, USA (“NEON_D17_SJER_DP3_257000_4112000_reflectance.h5” from March 2019). This subset was created in order to reduce file size from the original tile's ~650Mb to this file which is ~50Mb. In order to make such a substantial reduction in size, this file contains imagery for an area that is 500mX500m and has a reduced spectral resolution of 107 bands rather than the original 426 bands of imagery (every fourth band is selected; bands are not averaged). This file also has reduced metadata, retaining only what is necessary for training purposes. We suggest that this file only be used for the NEON tutorials (or other educational purposes where file size and/or processing power may be a limitation), and that scientific researchers obtain the original HDF5 files from data.neonscience.org
