This thesis explored the role of immune cells, such as monocytes, platelets and platelet-derived microvesicles, in the pathogenesis of hypertension and its cardiovascular consequences. It highlights the beneficial effect of regulating immune cells in hypertension and cardiovascular disease, which holds promise for novel treatment strategies of cardiovascular disease.
