Islandora as a Data Repository
Is there a shared common definition of what a data repository should be? What kinds of functionality do data repositories typically have, and how does this functionality differ from institutional repositories? What features are most desired by researchers, and what features are necessary to ensure compliance with data sharing mandates?
In this session, I explore emerging answers to these questions, sharing what we have learned at Florida State University about the state of the art in data repository functionality and support services. Specifically, I provide an overview of data repository standards and exemplars, as well as core functionality related to data storage, discovery, access, and preservation.
To ensure maximum relevance to the Islandora community, I also assess the extent to which core data repository functionality is supported in Islandora 7.x-1.8, identifying specific Islandora modules that already provide this functionality, as well as gaps that present opportunities for future development in 7.x and CLAW.
