Presented May 10th, 2017 at the ELUNA conference in Schaumburg, Illinois.
In this session, we will describe a use case for WorldShare Collection
Manager (WCM) as a source for ebook MARC records in Alma. We will cover
which description scenarios are a good fit for WCM, and why we opted to
use WCM as a record source as an alternative to the Alma Community Zone.
We will share the basic steps in setting up the service: the setup
necessary in WCM, scheduled Alma import profiles, and normalization
rules for standardizing records. We will discuss the differences in the
Alma import profiles and merge rules for new, updated, and deleted WCM
records. We will also share ways to configure WCM record delivery to
optimize record updates and record quality, as well as ways that
individual libraries can contribute to the improvement of the records in
WCM. The presentation will conclude with a discussion of service
quality – both in terms of record quality and as a service. We will
share procedures for automatically evaluating record quality using
Python scripts.
