Império das imagens e fluidez das identificações (Empire of images and fluidity of identifications)

The regime of power characteristic of modernity is exercised, according to Foucault's analysis, within the different disciplinary institutions - the factory, the school, the barracks, the hospital, the prison. We can say that each of these institutions value a certain kind of ego ideal, coupled with a repressive superego which monitors the adherence to normative standards. With the decline of the repressive superego accompanying the rise of imaginary, the disciplinary society examined by Foucault gives way to the society of control envisioned by Deleuze. To the extent that this ego ideal is coupled to a superego ordering enjoyment, while the normalizing effect of the repressive superego is eclipsed, it is possible the multiplication of symbolic models of identification. The bigger latitude of the ego ideal entails the plasticity of the ideal ego, which no longer fits predetermined molds, but can modulate itself in accordance with the circumstances. / O regime de poder característico da modernidade é exercido, conforme a análise de Foucault, no interior das diferentes instituições disciplinares – a fábrica, a escola, o quartel, o hospital, a prisão. Podemos dizer que cada uma dessas instituições valoriza um certo tipo de ideal do eu, acoplado a um supereu repressivo que zela pela adesão aos padrões normativos. Com o declínio do supereu repressivo que acompanha a escalada do imaginário, a sociedade disciplinar examinada por Foucault dá lugar à sociedade de controle vislumbrada por Deleuze. Na medida em que nesta o ideal do eu está acoplado a um supereu que ordena o gozo, enquanto o efeito normatizador do supereu repressivo se eclipsa, nela se torna possível a multiplicação dos modelos simbólicos de identificação. À maior latitude do ideal do eu corresponde a plasticidade do eu ideal, que não precisa mais se adequar a moldes preestabelecidos, mas pode modular-se de acordo com as circunstâncias.
