This is a short course lecture that was given as part of our Plant Functional Traits Course 2 taught in Chengdu China. see http://www.uib.no/en/rg/EECRG/97477/plant-functional-traits-course-2.

This lecture borrows from previous lectures and work - in particular from C.A. Strasser and Ethan White.  Because most scientists spend much time thinking about the types of data they need relatively little effort is spent considering how to store, analyze, share, and achieve their data. Here I given an introduction about how to think about, store, and develop your data and analysis workflows.

As several have asked me for copies of this lecture I have provided it here on FigShare. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you should have suggestions for how to improve this introductory lecture.
