How teenagers use music to manage their mood: An initial investigation

Results from a survey of 111 Australian youth self-reporting on the ways that they use music to manage their mood.  Results show that the vast majority of  teenagers used their personally preferred music to improve their mood. A significant relationship was also identified between teenagers who scored as high-risk to psychological distress and a preference for heavy metal music, with a small minority of this cohort feeling worse post- listening
