Heat transfer enhancement in LED cooling via phase-change heat transfer assisted with graphene-based materials

thesis
posted on 2018-01-04, 03:51 authored by MING LEONG NG
Graphene nanosheets have attracted significant interest due to their unique thermal, electrical and mechanical properties. Therefore, this research focuses on the application of graphene-based coatings on LED to enhance the phase-change heat transfer. Two novel cooling techniques were studied experimentally. The first cooling technique is carried out with the immersion of an LED coated with graphene-based materials in an evacuated bottle. The second cooling technique involves the cooling of an LED by using copper mini-thermosyphon with graphene coated channels. The boiling process and characteristics, illuminosity, microstructure and the thermal performance of the cooling systems are studied in the research.
