Fig. C: Concentration of conservative behaving REE Sm versus K concentrations in acetic acid leachates of studied cap dolostones from the Yangtze Platform. No clear positive correlations are found. Red crosses mark samples that exceed Al concentrations of 0.35 wt.% and have non aqueous REE patterns (Y/Ho < 27; PrN/YbN > 1) arguing for the influence of silicate leaching. Increased concentrations in Al coincide with K concentrations greater 2200 µg/g (grey dashed line). For comparison the concentrations of carbonate reference material JLs-1 (pure limestone) and SDO-1 (shale) were plotted. If clay leaching plays a significant role the data points should plot on an expected trend line between the two pure "endmember" reference materials. (legend for data points can be found in Fig. 4)
