Experimental setup.

The setup consisted of the following components:1 video camera, 2 movable screen of the video camera, 3 halogen lamp, 4 triaxial micromanipulator, 5 adjustable clamp for mounting the beetle, 6 box with three LEDs, 7 draw bars, 8 IR emitter mounted behind cover plates, 9 projection screens, 10 laminator, 11 three computer fans. In zero position the beetles flew towards the window against an airflow of 0.8 m/s generated by the fans. The airflow prevented transfer of heated air from the IR emitters to the beetle.
