The original version was presented at the University of British Columbia and Michigan State University in February 2013. The first revision was delivered as the keynote at the British Ecological Society's Macroecology meeting in July 2013. The second revision was presented at the University of North Carolina and the National Evolutionary Synthesis Center (NESCent) in September of 2013.
