Melanocytic dysplasia is a controversial concept, initially applied to recognized melanoma precursor lesions. However, there is no real consensus on its application, types, pathologic conditions, differential diagnosis, and its natural history. The primary aspects covered in this paper include: - Concept and criteria. Grading - Pathologic conditions and main types (epithelioid and lentiginous) - Differential diagnosis (Atypia and regenerative changes, and Inflammation and regression) - Progressive or regressive nature of melanocytic dysplasia
