Project Degree as part of the Study Program in Medicine, Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden.<div>In this project, the hypothesis of common neural substrates for empathy for pain, emotional mimicry (i.e. the tendency to spontaneously copy facial expressions of others), and emotional contagion (i.e. the tendency to spontaneously feel what others are feeling). This was done using fMRI, EMG, and various self-report measures. The data was retrieved from the Stockholm Sleepy Brain Study I dataset. The results trended toward a functional association between measures representing empathy for pain, emotional mimicry, and emotional contagion. </div><div>This project was supervised by Gustav Nilsonne, MD, PhD, Dept of Clinical Neuroscience, Karolinska Institutet. </div>
