This work follows the example of our "Distant-Reading Showcase" which displayed co-occurrence networks of 465 German-language plays, at a glance. Networks of the 144 Russian plays were extracted and visualised using our Python script collection "dramavis".

The unusual view from the digital stratosphere can reveal macrostructures. What is visible from such a distance are general shifts from simple network structures to more complex ones throughout the two centuries between Sumarokov's tragedy "Horev" (1747) and Mayakovsky's and Bulgakov's plays of the 1920s and 1930s.

This visualisation will be featured in our chapter on "Social Network Analysis in Russian Literary Studies" for "The Palgrave Handbook of Digital Russia Studies".
