City of Westminster street nameplate composite

dataset
posted on 2017-09-05, 13:51 authored by Robert G. HarlandRobert G. Harland
This composite photographic image illustrates how the design of the City of Westminster street nameplate has been adapted over a fifty year period, since it's creation by Design Research Unit in the 1960s. It is now also used to characterize some of Westminster's cultural differences, to sign other places, as property and event promotion, memorabilia, and as a fashion accessory. The photographs substantiate the city's planning department claim that the nameplate is 'iconic', and is shown here in contrast to an adjacent borough that uses a more traditional approach to typographic design for street nameplates.
