Individual-based fecundity storage promotes coexistence in neutral communities.ppt (5.95 MB)
Care Bears and Neutral Theory
This is an early talk I gave using Care Bears as visual aids to a synthesis between ecological neutral theory (i.e. all individuals in a community have equal per capita vital rates, equalizing coexistence) and the storage effect (i.e. species coexisting in a community because they aren't directly competing at the same time, stabilizing coexistence). In effect, this is an explanation of an ecological neutral model with dormancy incorporated that I eventually published in the journal of biogeography (link below). Slides are well annotated.
